Updated 11 May 2022. I really enjoyed hosting Kathy and Thelma for this ‘make your own lip balm’ class. See pics below, and new class coming up in June.

The inspiration.

1989. That was the year ‘The Body Shop’ stores first opened in New Zealand. Morello Cherry and Kiwifuit. These were the two ‘flavours’ of lip balm my English class buddy and I had in our pencil cases. They were steadfast beacons on our desks. Reassuringly always present, with the promise of sweetness, and moisture-laden lips, for a moment of distracted joy.

I was completely captivated by the Body Shop, and would visit every chance I could. Sniffing here, testing there, my eyes swiveling from one fruit shaped soap to the next. Marveling because the sales assistant presented my purchase in a cellophane and ribboned bag of goodness. But even better, all colours and decorative extras were chosen by me. I was completely under this shop’s spell. Entranced by a cosmetic and self care range that operated under strong self determined ethics. The were (and still are), ‘Against animal testing’. Mind blown. Products from The Body Shop were fabulous to use, smelled good enough to eat, and had an agenda bigger than a profit margin. Store that away Jo, my subconscious said.

The now.

Fast forward 30 odd years (eek!) and cruelty free products are common place (including Mcginns). Now I make my own lip balm, my own joy, in my own way. With my own different, resource saving and natural philosophy agenda. And if you want to learn how, you can too. Because I have made it easy for you to create your own lip balm in my upcoming class using three simple, natural, plant-based ingredients.

The Lip balm class.

Join my make session on Wednesday the 20th of April 2022, and you will make and take home your very own cardboard tube of balm. I will supply all materials and equipment , and pass on information about where to get your own materials if you want to make more. Maybe you want to personalize your gift giving, or create your own side hustle, or perhaps for fundraising to support your own personal crusade?

You may bring along your own lipstick if you wish to colour your balm to make your own personalized lip tint. This is a great way to use up the last of your favourite old lipstick. Check my shop regularly, or sign up to my class newsletter to be involved in the next upcoming class.

These are very small classes, and may sell out fast. Ensure you hear about them first by joining the Christchurch class priority email list. Fill out first name and email address below, and hit the confirm button below. Easy!

Join this group so you don't miss the chance to make plant based hand cream, lip balm, serum and more.

See privacy policy for more info about how your details are kept.
