Reduce packaging waste in my natural products class.
I have tested recipes, learned techniques, and sourced local ingredients for these classes. You just get to arrive and make with out the hassle of setting up and clear away. And, you get to save packaging waste at the same time. How cool is that?

NATURAL SKINCARE: MAKE KAWA KAWA & CALENDULA CREAM MOISTURSER (tickets not yet released at CWEA)
Saturday 2nd November, 1.30 – 5pm, $35
We will be preparing Kawa kawa, Calendula and Comfrey infusions and then emulsify them to make a cream. The idea is to transfer reputed healing properties from the plant matter into our cream ingredients. NZ ingredients to feature in our cream include Beeswax, Olive oil and Lavender Essential oil (optional). We will be using a plant-derived commercial preservative, which will give you a minimum of 3 months to use up your 50g pot of cream. Everything is supplied in this class except for a 50g capacity pot. I’m encouraging you to reuse an old one if you can. If you cannot bring one along I will have them available to purchase for $3.
Healing Plants
Kawa kawa has been utilised by Tangata Whenua in traditional medicine, Rongoā and a recent Auckland University Study has found it to be rich in compounds known for anti-inflammatory and pain-killing properties. Calendula is thought to assist with wound healing, and to soothe irritated and dry skin. Some may be interested to learn more about these herbs so I will bring along some published material.
Please note that there will be some down time while we wait for our oils and waxes to melt, which is a perfect opportunity to read, chat or have a tea or coffee (gold coin Koha to CWEA in the tin provided please).

Saturday 9th November, 1.30-5pm, $35
We will make zinc balm in this class that is good for your skin! It contains skin conditioning coconut oil, healing calendula, powerful vitamin E, skin sebum regulating jojoba, and irritation reducing zinc oxide. We will colour it with skin safe pigments.
You have colour options.
You may be an adventurous sort who likes classic white, or a peppy bright purple. However, if overt is not your style, you can choose to make one of three skin tone colours. We will re use a pre sanitized glue stick casing; giving it a final sanitize directly before we fill it with our balm. I will provide one for you or you will be able to buy a card tube casing from me for $4. Bring cash if you want to purchase one.
After this class you will feel good being able to reuse some packaging, while making something that is normally the preserve of large cosmetic companies. It will give you confidence knowing exactly what you have put in it, that the pigments are skin safe, and that Zinc Oxide is known to be a UV filter.
